Dublin OpenCoffee Club Next Thursday Morning

Coffee

Web 2.0 Ireland is calling Irish entrepreneurs to action: start Irish OpenCoffee Clubs. OpenCoffee Clubs are:

An attempt to establish recognized, open and regular meeting places where entrepreneurs can meet with investors (and anyone else who fancies coming along) in a totally informal setting. Something that can be replicated in anywhere else at little or no cost — though we do want to build a list of all the places where entrepreneurs can meet and who will be around for them to talk with.

I’m picking-up that call and want to hold Dublin’s first OpenCoffe Club next Thursday morning in Dublin city. Anyone interested should leave their name below. Suggestions for suitable locations are welcome. A few that come to mind are:

  • BiaBar, Lower Stephens Street: free WIFI provided by free-hotspot.com and not too busy during the day with plenty of space, tables and chairs.
  • Coffee Society, Liffey Street: space for maybe 10 people plus the coffee is good. WIFI provided by bitbuzz; a potential sponsor?
  • Dakota, South William Street: tons of space but a bit dark. WIFI provided by bitbuzz.

There are loads more around the place. Have a look at the locations on the bitbuzz site for inspiration. Think of the possibilities for small events like these if / when Dublin city gets completely unwired courtesy of the City Council!

Update: James has picked-up on this too and is proposing a Limerick OpenCoffee Club.

Update 2: Morisson announced as venue. Please see this post for details.

  1. Hmm sounds interesting, maybe I can find someone to sell Bigulo to :)

Whats the actual purpose of the event, is it a meet and greet for web entrepreneurs and potential investors yeah?

  2. Des: The original stated purpose is focused on helping entrepreneurs find and meet investors. But I think it’s real strength will be as a regular and informal networking opportunity for web entrepreneurs and enthusiasts.

  3. Hi Eoghan,

would also be delighted to attend. Another possible venue is the Morrisson Hotel.

I’m almost sure they have free Wi-Fi.

  4. Hi Eoghan, will be delighted to attend. Hope to see you then. Cheers.

  5. So is it this Thursday, or will there be a follow up post explaining all ?

  6. Laurence: That’s great. The Morrison is a good spot and it does have free WIFI (the last time I checked). Never thought of it.

Arh: Looking forward to meeting you.

Des: It will be Thursday. I’ll announce a venue Wednesday morning and we’ll take it from there. Hope you can make it.

  7. Is it any particular time on Thursday?

    Paul

  8. Paul: Not yet, but will be around 9AM or 10AM. If you have any preferences, please let me know.

  9. I’d be interested in the event as well. sounds interesting.

  10. Sounds like a great idea, Eoghan. Thursday’s not a good day for those of us who are not working for ourselves though. I know Saturday (AKA duvet time) is even worse for those that are self-employed! Hmmm. How about organising something like this on a Saturday from lunchtime onwards? Everyone gets a lie-in, those of us that work Mon-Fri can attend, and the more hardcore element could while away into the evening and drink beer ;o)

  11. We could probably have two, and then if it is to become a regularish event, we can make a more informed decision about best time/place afterwards. I certainly wouldn’t mind dropping in some Saturday afternoon, only difficulty is finding a venue will be tougher.

  12. Might pop in for an update if I can get myself into town at that ungodly hour, but will have to zip off quite soon.

  13. Bia Bar beside Break-for-the-Border has Free WIFI :) and its a cool place :)

  14. I missed the event. Got lost through my content feeds.

Let me know next time, Fred

  15. If it turns out anything like the one I’ve just attended in London you better ensure you have plenty of space. It was more like a networking event that I usually attend in the evening, only over a late!

Dakota is cool - that’s where I hosted the Firefox Ireland party - although I’m not sure if they have WiFi. If they have, I’d recommend it.

  16. I suggest that all OpenCoffee Club members check the list of cafes offering FREE Wi-Fi at www.free-hotspot.com. There you will find 12,000+ locations where Wi-Fi is provided FREE OF CHARGE. There are many locations in Dublin, and you may want to check our other locations around the world before your next trip. In addition to cafes and restaurants, we have hotels, hair salons, gas stations and other venues - all offering FREE Wi-Fi.

  2. […] Dublin’s first OpenCoffee Club will be held in The Morrison Hotel this Thursday, 1 March at 9AM. All are welcome. It’ll be a very casual affair; it’s basically a chance to chat face to face with some of the names you might know (or might not know) from around the Irish blogosphere. There will be no agenda or overriding theme to the event. Personally, I’ll be asking people what they’re working on now and what plans, business or otherwise, they have for the future. I’m really looking forward to meeting the guys who’ve put their name on the list. Please add yours if you’d like to join us, if only for a half an hour. I’ll probably be there from 9AM but turn up whenever you want. […]
