Eoghan McCabe is a Gimmicky Bastard

Just got off the phone with my local printer:

Printer: Hi, got your e-mail there, but you sent the wrong file.
Me: Really? Em… nope, that’s it.
Printer: They’re your business cards?
Me: Eh, yeah. What’s the problem?
Printer: There’s no phone number!

Calling Cards

But they’re not business cards, they’re calling cards. And I’ll be handing out these babies at tomorrow. Make sure to ask me for one and feel free to tell me I’m an idiot.

  1. You still use “hardcopy” businesscards?!
I’ve given these up some time ago and just send my contact details via SMS or bluetooth to the other persons phone.
That way they have my details stored immediately and it saves me the hassle of getting cards designed & printed..
    ;-)

  2. I think it’s a very clever idea Eoghan, something different and memorable. Unfortunately it totally slipped my mind to print up new cards so I’ll have to resort to Evert’s method.

  3. Hi Evert,

Some digital solutions like that are nice, but I think paper cards have a special advantage. Instead of simply holding contact info (actually, mine don’t even do this), paper cards take up real world space in a potential client’s pocket, wallet, drawer or whatever. This way, they can come across the card and hopefully say “oh yeah, that Eoghan McCabe guy, must check out his site”. However, if they hold my details electronically, they need to first decide they want to contact me, then look up my number. And I really wish people just “decided” to look me up, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work that way. :)

  4. James, thanks. Hope others think along similar lines too.

  6. They were really cool calling cards Eoghan, thanks for putting up with my constant harrasment of “you must come meet Eoghan, he has the coolest business cards” and dragging of people up to you all day. Great to meet you, keep in touch and let’s hope the next one of these will be a bit closer to home… the car journey back today was not pleasant with a hangover…

  7. They look great :)

    Seriously, why bother??
No e-mail, no phone number, no fax number, no URL.
I know if i was given a business card without details i’d ditch it.
Okay, if i did come across your card later on id remember it, but would i bother?? Do I enter eoghanmcabe.ie/ .com/ .net/ .org etc etc etc.
I know i’ll check google…… ahh forget it.

  9. The type of people that would throw out my card or not even bother to look me up are the exact type of people I never want to work with. :)
